1) What is an ISBN Number?

An ISBN number is a unique number that is given to each printed textbook. The reason you give the ISBN number when selling a textbook is to ensure that the buyer receives the exact book they are looking for, if they are looking for an exact edition, etc.

2) How do I rate the condition of the book I’m selling?

Excellent Near perfect or perfect condition. Pretty much in the same condition it was, when it was first purchased.

Very good With the exception of a few bent pages, or a little highlighting, the book is in excellent condition.

Good Some minor damage to book, which may include highlighted pages or a small tear on a couple of pages, but otherwise is in very good condition.

Satisfactory Noticeable damage to book is evident such as several torn or bent pages, yet book is still in acceptable condition for effective use.

Poor Book is in a condition that may hinder effective use. While book has sustained heavy damage, it is still worth reading again.

3) How do you address your customer’s security concerns?

To support our customers security concerns, we have chosen to send and receive payments with Paypal payment systems. By signing up with Paypal, customers are able to hide sensitive financial information including credit card and bank account information. We don’t even see your credit card numbers! In addition, Paypal uses SSL technology to encrypt customer data. Paypal is trusted by more than 153,000,000 users. For more information on Paypal, visit www.paypal.com

4) How do I set a good price for the book I’m selling?

While setting the price of the book you want to sell is totally up to you, here is an example of what you might want to think about when naming your price.

  • If your book is in Good-Excellent condition, it is probably worth at least 50% of the purchase value.
  • The better the condition of the product is, the more it is worth. For example a book in excellent condition may be worth 90% of its purchase value, while a book in poor condition may only be worth 10%
  • If you know your book is being used again this semester at school, and a newer edition hasn’t been released, your book is probably worth considerably more.
  • If you simply want to sell the book as quickly and easily as possible, set your price so it will be hard to resist.
  • Many people will purchase textbooks simply as reference materials, at the right price.
  • Be sure to include shipping costs in the price of your book, and don’t forget that while we recommend using Canada post, using a courier service such as UPS or FedEx can be a good incentive for a buyer, if they need the book in a hurry.
  • You can always change the price of your book if you find it isn’t selling as fast as you had hoped. Simply log onto your account to change the details of the books you are selling.

5) How do I remove a book I no longer want to sell?

If you no longer want to sell your book, simply log onto your account and click on the “Remove item” tab. Alternatively, you can Contact Us to make your request.

6) Once I sell my book, how do I ship it to my buyer?

Because of the price difference, we recommend shipping from any Canada Post outlet. To find the location nearest you, visit www.canadapost.ca. Click on the "Personal" tab, and then click on the "find a post office" button. Be sure to fill us in after you have shipped the item, to avoid any tracking charges, and remember that ensuring an item makes it to the buyer is the seller's responsibility, so we recommend you purchase a tracking number. We will notify you of more shipping options, as they become available.

7) What are all the fees I should know about when using this site?

When selling a book, the seller is charged a 12.5% commission fee on any sale made through our website, unless otherwise stated in a promotional offer. This is the only charge standard to all sales on this site. Other charges occur if there is a disruption of the delivery process.
A) If the seller or buyer does not confirm the shipping or receiving of the item within 2 business days, then that party is charged an additional 2.5% manual delivery tracking fee.
B) If a shipper agrees to ship an item, and does not follow through within 3 business days, or if a buyer refuses delivery of an ordered item, that party is charged a 2.5% processing fee.

8) I have purchased a textbook, when can I expect the item to arrive?

It depends. However.. talking in general terms, the seller is given 3 business days to confirm the order and ship the item out... Canada post takes between 2 and 9 business days, but typically the item SHOULD arrive within a week. It should never take any longer than 12 days from the order date.

9) The textbook I wanted to buy or was selling on the web site seemed to have disappeared, and now I cannot find it by searching. Why did this happen?

When a textbook is posted on our website, it is listed in our main online bookshelf which anybody can search through. If somebody attempts to purchase a textbook, whether the textbook is successfully purchased or not, it is then put into an on hold bookshelf and the item can no longer be found by using our general browse or search features. The textbook will remain on hold until we can either confirm the sale, or find out the sale did not go through successfully.

10) Some of the links on your site don't appear to work. What is the problem?

This problem is likely related to one of two things:
1) The link is temporarily down, or that section of the site is under construction, so the link has been deactivated. If this is the case, please try again later. The link should be reactivated within a few hours.
2) Your internet browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, etc.) does not support our site. If this is the case, Try one of the following solutions:

  1. Download the latest version of Microsoft Internet Explorer by visiting: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/ie/getitnow.mspx
  2. Download the latest version of Mozilla Firefox by visiting: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/ie.html
  3. Visit our crawler page and click on the links manually by visiting: crawler.html
