What is an ISBN Number?

An ISBN number is a unique number that is given to each printed textbook. The reason you give the ISBN number when selling a textbook is to ensure that the buyer receives the exact book they are looking for, if they are looking for an exact edition, etc.

How do I rate the condition of the book I’m selling?

Excellent – Near perfect or perfect condition. Pretty much in the same condition it was, when it was first purchased.

Very good – With the exception of a few bent pages, or a little highlighting, the book is in excellent condition.

Good – Some minor damage to book, which may include highlighted pages or a small tear on a couple of pages, but otherwise is in very good condition.

Satisfactory – Noticeable damage to book is evident such as several torn or bent pages, yet book is still in acceptable condition for effective use.

Poor – Book is in a condition that may hinder effective use. While book has sustained heavy damage, it is still worth reading again.

How do I set a good price for the book I’m selling?

While setting the price of the book you want to sell is totally up to you, here is an example of what you might want to think about when naming your price.

  • If your book is in Good-Excellent condition, it is probably worth at least 50% of the purchase value.
  • The better the condition of the product is, the more it is worth. For example a book in excellent condition may be worth 90% of its purchase value, while a book in poor condition may only be worth 10%
  • If you know your book is being used again this semester at school, and a newer edition hasn’t been released, your book is probably worth considerably more.
  • If you simply want to sell the book as quickly and easily as possible, set your price so it will be hard to resist.
  • Many people will purchase textbooks simply as reference materials, at the right price.
  • Be sure to include shipping costs in the price of your book, and don’t forget that while we recommend using Canada post, using a courier service such as UPS or FedEx can be a good incentive for a buyer, if they need the book in a hurry.
  • You can always change the price of your book if you find it isn’t selling as fast as you had hoped. Simply log onto your account to change the details of the books you are selling.

How do I remove a book I no longer want to sell?

If you no longer want to sell your book, simply log onto your account and click on the “Remove item” tab. Alternatively, you can contact support@textbookexchange.ca to make your request.

Once I sell my book, how do I ship it to my buyer?

Because of the price difference, we recommend shipping from any Canada Post outlet. To find the location nearest you, visit www.canadapost.ca And click on the "find a postal outlet" tab. Be sure to fill us in after you have shipped the item, to avoid any tracking charges. We will notify you of more shipping options, as they become available.

Will you pay me cash for my textbooks?

Sometimes… if a book is in demand, or if we receive a request for specific titles, the titles will be listed in our most requested section, including the price we are willing to pay.
